FAQs

What happens in the free 15-minute call?
It's a relaxed, no-obligation chat by phone. You can tell me a little about what's bringing you to therapy, ask me anything you'd like to know, and get a feel for whether we'd work well together. You don't need to have it all worked out beforehand. If we decide to go ahead, we'll arrange a first session.

How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are 50 minutes and cost £70. Payment is by bank transfer or cash, made on the day of the session.

Where are sessions held?
In-person sessions take place in central Chester, on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings. Online sessions are available on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings by secure video call, so you can join from anywhere in the world.

Is online therapy as effective as face-to-face?
For many people, yes. Some clients find it easier to open up from their own space, and it saves travel time. All you need is a private, quiet room and a stable internet connection. We can talk through which option suits you best on your free call.

How many sessions will I need?
It really depends on you and what you'd like to work on. Some people come for a few months to focus on a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term work to explore deeper patterns. We'll review how things are going together regularly, and you're always free to decide when to finish.

Do I need a diagnosis or a GP referral?
No. You don't need a diagnosis or a referral, and your GP doesn't need to know you're having counselling unless you choose to tell them. If something in your life feels difficult, that's reason enough to reach out.

What kind of issues can you help with?
I often work with anxiety, stress, low mood and depression, low self-esteem, anger, feeling stuck in repeating patterns, and difficulty making sense of the past. If you're unsure whether I can help with what you're experiencing, get in touch and we can talk it through during the no-obligation phone call.

What is your approach?
My approach is warm, collaborative and integrative. I look at both the past and the present, helping you understand where difficult feelings may come from and how to manage them day to day. I have a special interest in mindfulness and may bring in practical techniques if they would help you. We'll always work at a pace that feels right for you.

Do you work with children and teenagers?
Yes, I work with young people, starting from age 10. I'll usually meet with a parent or carer first to understand what's going on, and then work directly with the young person. Sessions are confidential, within safeguarding limits, which I explain clearly to both of you at the start.

Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What you share in sessions stays between us. As a BACP registered member, I follow the BACP Ethical Framework. As with all counsellors, there are a few rare limits to confidentiality, mainly where someone's safety is at serious risk. I'll explain these clearly before we begin, so you know exactly where you stand.

What if I need to cancel?
I ask for 24 hours’ notice to cancel or rearrange a session. Sessions cancelled with less notice are charged at the full fee.

Are you a qualified and registered counsellor?
Yes. I'm a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP, membership number 409435).

Can I use private health insurance?
I don't currently work with insurers, but some health cash-back schemes cover counselling costs, so it's worth checking your policy.

What if I'm in crisis?
I'm not able to offer an emergency service. If you're in immediate danger, please call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent mental health support, you can call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option, or call Samaritans free at any time on 116 123.

How do I get started?
